A big Ketchikan welcome goes to all of the basketball players, coaches and fans who will be in town this week for the Region V 1A tournament set to run Wednesday through Saturday at the Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium.
Teams from small communities around Southeast Alaska are scheduled to participate. These communities include Thorne Bay, Klawock and Hydaburg on Prince of Wales Island, in addition to Kake, Hoonah, Angoon, Skagway, Gustavus and Yakutat.
Games start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday when the Yakutat and Hoonah boys teams take the floor. The championship games are set for Friday evening. The second-place games will be on Saturday evening.
We’re excited that Ketchikan is the host community for the Region V 1A tournament. Ketchikan High School’s Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium is a great venue, and the First City is a terrific basketball town. We hope to see many local folks in the stands to cheer on teams from around the region.
Welcome again to everyone. Best wishes for a superb tournament.
