Today is local election day in Ketchikan.

We’re grateful for the many local residents who have put their names forward as candidates for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly, Ketchikan School Board, Ketchikan City Council or Saxman City Council.

We appreciate the municipal staff members and polling place personnel who work diligently to ensure that the election processes is conducted properly.

We’re most thankful that we reside in a nation in which we have the right to vote to elect those who will represent us in office. It’s a hard-won right, not to be taken lightly or for granted.

We’re pleased that many people have made use of the available early and absentee voting options. It’s encouraging that there are ways to accommodate voters who are unable to vote in person on Election Day.

We strongly encourage every registered voter who hasn’t already cast a ballot to do so today.

It’s your right. It’s your privilege. And your vote — your voice on this election day — counts.

Local polling places are open from 7 am. to 8 p.m. today.

Please vote!
