Tina Marie Makua, 65, died Nov. 24, 2022, in Ketchikan.
She was born Tina Marie Guthrie on Sept. 11, 1957, in Ketchikan.
In her early years, she worked for the Saxman Village Store and the Ketchikan Indian Community.
“Tina was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family,” her family writes. “If there was family around, a card game was surely being played.”
She enjoyed her Native culture, making regalia and singing Native songs.
“Tina was involved in culture youth services, halibut subsistence and a matriarch,” her family writes.
Tina Makua was preceded in death by her mother, Winifred Beck; father, David Guthrie; sisters, Sandra Riley, Debra Guthrie and Pat Williams; brothers, Wayne Guthrie, Ted Guthrie, Darryl Guthrie and Charles Beck; grandparents, Fred and Mabel Williams, and Alex and Josephine Guthrie; and various other family members.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Makua; sons, Gary Makua, Harry Romero and Jacque Guthrie Sr.; daughters, Lora Romero, Tasha Makua, Danica Starkweather and Jennifer Cytanovich; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Randy (Alie) Williams, Fred (Aimee) Williams, Richard (Gloria) Guthrie, Barbara Guthrie, Raymond (Bert) Guthrie, Ronald Guthrie, Irene Jones, Joyce Makua, John (Julia) Guthrie, Emily Guthrie, Tawna Milligan and Sharon Seierup; and step-brothers and step-sisters, Donald Beck, Kenny Beck, Jennie Beck and Cindy Trepko; aunts; uncles; and many nieces and nephews whom she helped raise as her own.
A night watch will be at 6 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at the Saxman Long House.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at the Saxman Community Hall.
Mrs. Makua’s remains will be cremated.
