Susan “Susie” Vera Blandov was born on June 6, 1936 in Metlakatla, Alaska to her parents, Charles Hayward (Laxsgyiik) and Josephine Hewson. She went home on January 2, 2021.
Susie was Laxgyibuu, descending from the Gitlaan house of T’ałm Ha’ax. She was named Susan after her paternal grandmother, Susan (Buxton) Hayward.
Susie grew up in Metlakatla, visiting often at her aunty Dora Bolton’s with her mother, Biin (Josephine in a Tsimshian accent). She worked as a Lunch Lady at the High School, as a Town Janitor, at the Senior Citizen’s Center, the Cannery and the Post Office, and was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church.
She was widowed by her first husband and father of her children, Boris Kostrometinoff Sr., and later married Fritz Blandov.
She had a great sense of humor. Susie loved to knit, play bingo, put together puzzles, have coffee at Mini Mart with fish and chips, walk around the Casino, and visit with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Robert, Alex, Charles, and Henry; her husband, Fritz Blandov Sr.; and her sons, Fritz Blandov Jr. and Leo Kostrometinoff Sr.
She is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Williams and Doreen (Elliot) Nathan; her children, Boris Kostrometinoff and Tina (John) Marsden; her grandchildren, Leo Kostrometinoff Jr., Stephanie (John) Higgins, Nickolas Kostrometinoff, Christopher Marsden and Travis Marsden; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
