Robert L. “Bob” “Orpalo” “Tudoc” Valerio, 85, died June 30, 2019, in Seattle.
He was born on Aug, 24, 1933, in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
He attended school at Iron Mountain-Kingsford, and Day-de-Noc Community College in Michigan.
Mr. Valerio served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956, aboard the U.S.S. Benham.
He was employed in iron ore mining, truck driving, as a nurses aide in V.A hospitals, as a licensed practical nurse and as a respiratory technician.
He resided in Ketchikan for 45 years.
Mr. Valerio was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a past grand knight. He was a member of the Ketchikan Community Chorus.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drawing, painting and performing in plays.
“He was a tenor and loved to sing,” his family writes. “ As he aged, games of cards and bingo became a passion and he loved to win, as his partners at the Rendezvous Senior Center will laugh and confirm.”
Mr. Valerio was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Anne Valerio; sister, Lori Brockington; brothers-in-law Phillip Brockington and Ralph Stray; and father-in-law, Joseph Segorski.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Segorski; sons, Joseph King and William (Marion) King; daughters, Gayle (William) Brooks, Vickie (Scott) Schuelka, Roberta (Paul) Bennett, Traci (Roddy) Hagadorn, Julie Sandona and Kim Valerio; mother-in-law, Elvera Segorski; brothers-in-law, Michael Segorski and Ray Segorski; sister-in-law, June (Ken) Kingsley; and grandchilderen, Rudy, Christopher, Eric, Jennifer, Katlyn, Thomas, Lee Roy, Michelle, Ashley, Jerika, Dan, Felicia, Greg, Jon, Stephen. Joe, Aimee, Nathan, Katie, Justin, Jamie, Tammi, Justin, VJay and Olivia; and 44 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Holy Name Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Pat Travers.
Mr. Valerio’s remains will be intered at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Michigan.
