Orvel 'George' Houck

Orvel “George” Houck, 79, died Feb. 19, 2022, in Ketchikan.

Houck was born March 18, 1942, in Yamhill, Oregon, and he married his wife, Anna, on July 29, 2015, in Ketchikan, where they made their home.

He lived in Ketchikan for 45 years, working as a Sears repairman and at George’s Appliance Repair. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years starting in 1959, including during the Vietnam War.

He was affiliated with the Catholic Church, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Elks, the Shriners, and the Masons.

He enjoying fishing, crabbing, shrimping, woodworking and photography.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Theo Houck.

He is survived by his wife, Anna of Ketchikan; a brother, John (Kay) Houck of Aumsville, Oregon; and sons, Mike (Lynn) Dentler of Ketchikan, and Jeff (Debbie) Houck of Wendall, Idaho.

A memorial service is scheduled for June 12, 2022, at the American Legion. 

His remains were cremated.
