Marjorie V. Young, 86, died March 14, 2020, in Craig.
She was born Marjorie Verle Thompson on Nov. 9, 1933, in Ketchikan. She attended Craig Elementary School, Ketchikan High School, Washington State University.
She was married to Ralph Mackie Sr. in 1952 in Ketchikan, and to Alvin Young in 1965 in Craig.
She operated the Hill Bar & Liquor Store, Thompson Hotel and Thompson House Grocery and Supermarket.
Mrs. Young was a member of the Craig Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp #19, Shaan Seet Inc., Central Council of Tlingit and Haida. She also was a member of Sealaska Corp., and served on the Sealaska board of directors from 1979 to 2009. Sealaska’s Marjorie V. Young Shareholder Permanent Fund is named in her honor.
Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie (Cogo) and Tommy Thompson.
She is survived by her sons, Ralph, Jim and Tom Mackie of Craig, and Jerry Mackie of Anchorage; daughter, Alene Clement of Yakima, Washington; sister, Betty Isaacs of Klawock; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
The service time will be announced following the public health emergency, the family writes.
