Larry Leroy Thomas, 79, died June 20, 2019, in Ketchikan after many years in long-term care at the Ketchikan Pioneer Home and the PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center Long-Term Care Unit. He was born June 1, 1940 to Robert and Phyllis Thomas in Pennington, South Dakota. He and his one sibling, Robert, were raised in Crescent, Oregon — a logging community.
He graduated in 1958 and moved to Ketchikan in 1967 during the timber/logging boom. He worked at the Ketchikan Pulp Co. mill. He lived for a time in the Lower 48 in areas such as Minnesota before coming back to Ketchikan in the 1990s.
Mr. Thomas enjoyed photography, traveling, fishing and community service with the local Salvation Army, spending his last active years volunteering with The Salvation Army as one of their soldiers.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Phyllis Thomas: and brother, Robert L. Thomas.
He is survived by his children, Delbert and Delton Thomas of Oregon, Larry Booth of Ketchikan, and Amber (Steven) Sanders and Tawnia (Donald) Beckman of Minnesota; and grandchildren, Macy, Britney, Ash, Jonathan, Michael and Carter.
