James “Jim” W. Mortensen, 90, died on May 4, 2021, peacefully from lung cancer at his home in Bend, Oregon.
He was born on June 29, 1930, in Dillon, Montana.
Dr. Mortensen’s medical career started in Ketchikan in 1964. He was one of the original founders of the Ketchikan Medical Clinic until he moved to start a new career in ophthalmology in 1979.
“After his retirement Jim moved to Bend, Oregon, where he led a full and happy life until his death,” his family writes. “He will be missed!”
Dr. Mortensen was survived by his wife, Doralee Mortensen; son, George Mortensen; daughter, Julie Jarvi; two step-children; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
