James Allen “Jimmy” Charles Jr., 58, died July 10, 2019, of a heart attack in Anchorage.
He was born June 3, 1961, to Matilda K. Charles and James Charles Sr. He was the 12th of 14 children.
Mr. Charles was a card-carrying union worker who worked hard to attain his commercial drivers license so he could drive trucks. He also spent time in the carpentry and construction industries.
He enjoyed bike riding, taking his bike up the trails and going fishing in Ship Creek.
“Mr. Charles enjoyed spending his time in many ways; most of his time he was on the water where he was the most content,” his family writes. “He was a man of subsistence. He would fish for salmon and halibut, and gathered many clams and cockles in his time. He was also a hunter.
“Mr. Charles protected his relatives as he valued his family,” his family writes.
Mr. Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Ward, Garold Charles and Melvin Charles Sr.
He is survived by his siblings, Marvin Charles Sr., Ginger Fox, Thomas Charles, Donna M. Brew, Jillian Jamig, Sharon Charles, Candace Williams, Geraldine Lewis and Darell Bruce Charles.
A celebration of life service will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 8, 2019, at the Saxman Community Hall (Red Hall). Pall bearers will be Blair Strong, Tom Denny and Ramon Blair. Honorary pall bearers will be Donna Brew and Candace Williams.
