Gerald P. Wilks, 57, died June 4, 2020, in Ketchikan.
He was born on June 19, 1962, in Tillamook, Oregon, where he resided until moving to Ketchikan in 1970.
In 1972, he moved to Hyder. He graduated from Stewart Secondary in Stewart, British Columbia, in 1981. He returned to Ketchikan in 1999.
Mr. Wilks was employed at the Glacier Inn in Hyder from 1981 to 1999, and at Alaskan & Proud in Ketchikan from 1999 to 2020.
He enjoyed being a “proud dad,” and “cooking, especially for friends,” his family writes.
“(He) loved Halloween and dressing up as crazy characters,” his family writes. “He loved having fun with quick, witty humor. He could talk to anyone and was always the life of the party.”
Mr. Wilks was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Betty Wilks; father, Homer Jackman; and brothers, Jerry Wilks and Darrell Wilks.
He is survived by his son, Jordan Tarrant-Wilks of Ketchikan; brothers, Mike (Jenny) Wilks of Ketchikan, Chris (Linda) Wilks of Tillamook, Scott Wilks of Ketchikan, Glenn “Babe” (Wanda) Wilks of Waterfall, and Gregg Wilks of Ketchikan; sisters, Regina Jackman of Bellingham, Washington, and Robin Jackman of Nanaimo, British Columbia; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
