Extry Ronald Sarff

Extry Ronald Sarff, 94, died Sept. 23, 2021, at his home in Whale Pass.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1927. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and then served as a cook in the U.S. Maritime Service.

Mr. Sarff was married on May 17, 1948, in Reno, Nevada.

He moved to Alaska in 1970. He worked as a timber faller, oyster farmer and janitor for the Whale Pass School, and as a worker for AT&T.

Mr. Sarff enjoyed sport fishing, hunting and trapping. He also enjoyed poetry, and wrote two books of short stories and poetry. He honored and helped with his grandchildren.

Mr. Sarff was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Sarff; three sisters; and five brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Lela of Whale Pass; daughters, Connie Plante of Whale Pass, Regina Sarff of Wrangell, LaEtta Roth of Haines, and Melva Sarff Broad of Ketchikan; brother, Doyle Sarff of Wrangell; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Due to Covid, a memorial service is not planned.
