‘The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.’
Darrell Kenneth Larsen passed away on the morning of December 9, 2021. Known to childhood friends as ‘Butch,’ Darrell attended Gonzaga University where he met Mary Catherine Larsen (deceased). The two were married in 1971 and later settled permanently in Ketchikan. They had two children: Allen Burke Larsen born in 1975 (deceased) and Marna Ruth Larsen, born in 1982.
Darrell taught in Australia for several years, was a substitute teacher in the Ketchikan school district in the early eighties, and worked at the Ketchikan Pulp Mill up until its closure. He drove cab in his retirement, entertaining visitors with tall tales about the ‘Alaskan wilderness.’
An avid photographer with an appreciation for the transcendent within the ordinary, Darrell was seldom in front of the lens. This rare instance shows him fishing with a close friend.
