Barbara Ann Mata, 54, died Nov. 1, 2021, in Anchorage.
She was born Barbara Ann Brendible on June 5, 1967, at Mt. Edgecumbe.
She grew up in Metlakatla and graduated from Metlakatla High School in 1986. She was married in Ketchikan, where she resided for many years.
Mrs. Mata worked in housekeeping with the Ketchikan Indian Community, drove cabs, and was a small-business vendor.
She was a member of the Williams Duncan Memorial Church.
She enjoyed beading and pull tabs.
“Barbara loved and cherished her grandchildren Charles, Xavier, Lillian, Armani, Elizabeth and Elijah, as well as her many nieces and nephews,” her family writes.
Barbara Mata was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Brendible Jr.; mother, Lillian Williams; brothers, Gerald Brendible and Sidney Brendible; sister, Raven Brendible; and brother-in-law, John Alguire.
She is survived by her husband, Jupiter “Toto” Mata; daughters, Candra DeGuzman and Heather DeGuzman; son, Jason Brendible, all of Ketchikan; brother, Tom (Colleen) Brendible of Metlakatla; sisters, Kathy Alguire of Ketchikan, Christine Bean of Kake, Christina (Damion) Ripley of Ketchikan, Christie (Casey) Hailey of Port Orchard, Washington and Shawnee Brendible of Ketchikan; grandchildren, Charles, Xavier, Lillian, Armani, Elizabeth and Elijah; and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, at the Ketchikan Mortuary.
A funeral service will be on a date to be determined, in Metlakatla.
