April R. Guthrie, 57, died Jan. 3, 2021, in Metlakatla.
She was born April 3, 1963, in Berkley, California.
She graduated from Metlakatla High School, amd attended Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka; Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence, Kansas; and Northwest Indian College in Bellingham, Washington.
She resided in Metlakatla for most of her life, and worked in different capacities for the Metlakatla Indian Community from 1985 to the present.
She was a member of the William Duncan Memorial Church of the Assembly of God. She was a Sunday School teacher and avid supporter of youth ministries.
“The joy of her whole life were her nieces and nephews,” her family wrties. “She enjoyed spending time with them and cheering them on when they played sports.”
April Guthrie was preceded in death by her father, Leandro A. Guthrie Sr.; sister, Laurel Guthrie; grandparents, Albert and Sarah Wellington, and Thomas and Cecelia Guthrie.
She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Guthrie; siblings, Leandro Guthrie Jr., Margaret and Randy Hayward, and Albert and Edi Guthrie; nieces and nephews, Laurel, Drena and Christian Hayward, Myra and Sarah Guthrie, Michael McGilton Jr., Katherine and Josh Gifford, Theresa Wellington-McGilton, Elizabeth, Victoria and Andrew Anderson, Jacque Joyner, Jeanine Marsden, Aaron Brendible, Aretha, Randy, Richie, Lyman, and William Bryan and Ashley Hayward; and grandchildren, Tex and Callie Gazzaway.
Due to COVID-19, a private funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at the William Duncan Memorial Church of the Assembly of God.
