Andrew “Andy” Nick Smith, 59, died Feb. 23, 2021 in Ketchikan.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1962, in Ketchikan. He graduated with the Ketchikan High School Class of 1981.
An apprentice to Nathan Jackson, Mr. Smith was an adzer and had worked on the Saxman Tribal House, Totem Bight Tribal House and two tribal houses at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
He was an Alaska Native artist, collector, bicyclist, mechanic and percussionist; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Harold Smith; grandmother, Annie Johnson; grandfather, Nicholas Malachoff; and brother, Marshall Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Jane Malachoff Smith; brother, Martin Smith; brother, Harvey Smith; brother, Wesley Smith; sister, Ivy Smith: sister, Emma Smith; brother, Hal Smith; niece, Jane Smith; niece, Cheryl Smith; great-niece, Ivy Smith; great-nephew, Kenneth Tachell; and many more relatives.
Mr. Smith’s remains will be interred at Bayview Cemetery.
There will be no service at this time. A memorial service is being scheduled for Feb. 23, 2022.
