KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan High School Lady Kings volleyball team fell 3-0 to Eagle River High School in three straight sets on Friday.
The matchup was the Lady Kings second game during its weekend trip to Anchorage. Kayhi lost 3-0 to West Anchorage High School on Thursday.
Kayhi will wrap the trip up with a scrimmage on Saturday, giving the Lady Kings more time on the court, but the outcome won’t affect Kayhi’s overall record. Kayhi sits 0-2 on the young season.
Despite its loss to Eagle River, Kayhi battled the Wolves point-for-point Friday night. The Lady Kings dropped the opening set 25-18, but kept pace with the Wolves in the second and third frames, falling 25-22 in both sets.
The Lady Kings return home on Sunday, and are scheduled to host Thunder Mountain High School next weekend.
Swim and dive hosts meet
Several swim and dive teams are in town this weekend, as Kayhi hosts its first meet of the season at the Gateway Aquatic Center.
Craig, Juneau-Douglas, Thunder Mountain, Petersburg and Wrangell high schools jumped in the water with Kayhi on Friday, and the six teams will dive in again on Saturday afternoon. The meet is scheduled to continue at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Spectators are not allowed on the pool deck during the two-day swim meet. Participants from each high school wear masks when they are not competing in an event.
Kayhi will rest next weekend, but is scheduled to travel to Petersburg for its invitational on Sept. 17-18.
Results from this weekend’s swim and dive meet will be in a forthcoming issue.
