KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Schoenbar Middle School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams hosted squads from Charles R. Leask Sr. Middle School in Metlakatla on Friday.
The two schools went head-to-head at Ketchikan High School, allowing more fans in the stands, as each participant was given four tickets to pass out to family or friends.
Spectators had to be on a pre-arranged list, and were required to wear appropriate face masks while inside Kayhi. And the fans in the stands were treated to a full night of basketball between Schoenbar and Metlakatla A and B squads.
The Schoenbar Knights’ A team beat the Charles R. Leask Braves’ A squad 53-30. Schoenbar’s boys’ B squad beat Metlakatla’s B team 55-24.
The Schoenbar Lady Knights’ A team fell to the Charles R. Leask Lady Braves’ A squad 28-13. Schoenbar’s girls’ B team won 28-12 over Metlakatla’s girls’ B team.
The two schools will go head-to-head once more on Saturday. The girls’ B squads will start the action at 10 a.m., followed by the boys’ B teams at 11 a.m.
The girls’ A teams will play at 12 p.m., and the boys’ A teams will tip off at 1 p.m.

‘A team’ Matchups
Schoenbar boys 53, Metlakatla boys 30
The Schoenbar Knights carried a 26-18 lead over the Metlakatla Braves after one half on Friday, and the Knights never let their foot off the gas pedal.
Schoenbar outscored Metlakatla 27-12 in the second half, en route to its 53-30 win.
Helped along by Zyrus’ eight points in the first half, and Sean’s 11 points in the second half, Schoenbar kept the pressure on Metlakatla. Sean finished the game with 17 points, and Zyrus had 10 in the contest.
Metlakatla’s George Peratovich drained a three threes in the game. The Braves’ Xavier Olson also hit a 3-pointer. The duo finished with nine points apiece. Carter Milton also had eight points for the Braves

Metlakatla girls 28, Schoenbar girls 13
The Lady Braves’ Brynn Hayward led all scorers with 11 points in Friday’s matchup. Hayward scored nine of those in the first half, helping Metlakatla to its 17-2 lead at the break.
Both teams scored 11 points in the second half, but the point differential was too much for the Lady Knights to overcome.
Metlakatla’s Saadhia Buffalo and Ma’kani Martinez also chimed in with seven points apiece in the contest.
Schoenbar’s Braidyn Young scored all six of her points in the second half.
