KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Schoenbar Middle School boys’ and girls’ A squad basketball teams hosted the Ketchikan High School freshmen squads on Tuesday.
Schoenbar split the pair of games against the older teams, as the boys’ team fell 51-28 to Kayhi.
But the Schoenbar girls’ team rallied from behind to beat the Kayhi girls’ freshmen squad 28-24.

Kayhi Freshmen Boys 51, Schoenbar Boys A 28
Trey Colbert led the way for Kayhi Kings freshmen squad, scoring all 13 of his points in the first half, and Kayhi beat the Schoenbar boys’ A squad 51-28 on Tuesday night.
Colbert knocked down six shots, including a 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes. Kayhi’s Marcus Stockhausen also drained a three in the first half. Stockhausen finished the game with 11 points, scoring nine before the break. Kayhi led 35-16 at the half.
Both teams scored three 3-pointers. In addition to Colbert and Stockhausen’s shots, Kayhi’s Lukas Vest drained a three, finishing with five points.
Schoenbar’s Edward Dela Cruz, Jozaiah Dela Cruz and Jesse Albecker all hit 3-pointers for the Knights.
Julian Paule led the Knights with eight points. Paule was consistent throughout the contest, hitting shots in both halves, and was 2-for-5 from the free throw line.

Schoenbar Girls A 28,
Kayhi Freshmen Girls 24
Kylie Brendible put her team on her back in the second half against the Kayhi girls’ freshmen squad on Tuesday night.
With her team down 15-10 at the half, the Schoenbar eighth grader scored a dozen points after the break, and led Schoenbar’s girls’ A team to a 28-24 win over Kayhi.
Brendible finished the game with 17 points, accounting for half of Schoenbar’s points in the first 20 minutes.
Schoenbar’s Lovell Yeltatzie also chimed in with six points, knocking in a pair of baskets in the first half, and tacked on two more points after the break.
Kayhi’s Molly Sivertsen led the Lady Kings’ freshmen squad with 10 points, scoring five in each half. She was 2-for-5 from the free throw line. Lilli Goodwin, Carol Frey and Riah McGarrigan each knocked in a pair of baskets, as well, and the trio combined for 12 of Kayhi’s tallies.
Abi Davies also scored a basket in the first half, helping Kayhi to its 15-10 lead in the first half.
But after the break, Brendible caught the hot hand — and Schoenbar caught up to Kayhi.

Notes: Earlier Tuesday evening, the Schoenbar B squads hosted the Ketchikan Charter School basketball teams. The Schoenbar girls’ B team won 49-20, and the Schoenbar boys’ B team won 45-37.
