KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan High School Lady Kings' junior varsity squad went toe-to-toe against junior varsity teams from Sitka and Juneau-Douglas high schools inside Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium on Saturday, winning two of their three matches.

The JV Lady Kings beat Juneau-Douglas' JV team 2-0 in the day's opening match — a best-of-three bout against Kayhi's rival. The First City won the first set 25-16, and the second frame 25-20.

Kayhi's JV team fell 2-1 to Sitka's JV squad in its second match, which also was a best-of -three series. Kayhi reached 25 tallies first in the opening set, but fell 25-14 and 15-11 in the second and third frames.

The JV Lady Kings' rebounded against Sitka in a best-of-five match for their final game of the day, winning 3-1.

The first two frames were back-and-forth, as both teams won a set pushed to extra points. Sitka won the first frame 26-24, and Kayhi was victorious in a thrilling second set — 28-26.

The JV Lady Kings continued to ride their momentum in the third set, winning 25-23, and rolled to a 25-16 victory in the fourth, and final, frame.
