KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan High School Lady Kings’ varsity volleyball squad went 1-1 on Friday.
After beating Mt. Edgecumbe High School inside Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium during the school day, the Lady Kings tried to do the same against Sitka High School on Friday evening — and they almost did.
Ultimately, the Lady Kings fell 26-24, 25-19 and 25-20 in consecutive sets against the Sitka Lady Wolves. Kayhi’s Lindsay Byron had 21 kills in the matchup.
Ketchikan and Mt. Edgecumbe will go head-to-head once more on Halloween.
Varsity volleyball action will begin at 7 p.m. inside Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium, as the Lady Kings and Lady Braves will square off in a best-of-five series on Saturday.
Only those who present a ticket, which is free of charge and will be needed for entrance into the gym, will be able to watch the games. A limited number of tickets will be available at the front door of Kayhi.
The junior varsity squads will play Mt. Edgecumbe earlier in the afternoon on Saturday.
Kayhi’s junior varsity second-team will compete at 3:30 p.m., and the first-team JV squad will play at 5:15 p.m. at Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium.
Tickets are required for those matchups, as well.
