KETCHIKAN- (KDN) First place match wins by Hayley Gilson and Titan Linne powered the Ketchikan High School wrestling team at this weekend’s Brandon Pilot Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Thunder Mountain High School.

Twelve Kayhi wrestlers participated in Saturday’s rounds of the tournament that also included wrestlers from Mt. Edgecumbe, Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg and Haines high schools. The Ketchikan team placed fourth with 111 points, behind Thunder Mountain (172.5), Mt. Edgecumbe (164) and Wrangell (143).

Titan Linne won the boys 119-pound division first-place match with an 8-3 decision over Thunder Mountain’s Owen Woodruff, according to results posted on trackwrestling.com.

In the girls’ 135-pound division, it was Hayley Gilson winning by fall over Wrangell’s Jamie Early in 2:46. Trisha Capps of Kayhi placed second in the girls’ 125-pound division with a loss to MaKenna Beans by fall in 1:19.

On the boys side, Conor Pearson of Ketchikan placed third in the 112-pound class with a win over Brandon Day of TMHS by fall in 4:26. First and second place in the division went to two brothers, Carson Cummins and Colton Cummins of TMHS.

Seth Webb of Kayhi placed third in the boys’ 171-pound division with a win by fall over Aiden Ojala of Sitka in 1:20.

Kayhi had two wrestlers in the boys’ 125-pound division. Oscar Wutzke placed fourth, and Sampson Oliver placed sixth.

Casey Styles of Kayhi placed fourth in the boys’ 145-pound division, and Collin Elliot placed fourth in the boys’ 152-pound class.

Kayhi’s two wrestlers in the boys’ 160-pound division, Easton Yoder and Michael Rene, placed sixth and seventh respectively.

The Ketchikan High School team anticipates traveling next for the Region V championship tournament that’s scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Wrangell.
