On Tuesday, Ketchikan Gateway Borough voters who live outside the cities of Ketchikan and Saxman will vote on Proposition 2, a citizen's initiative to repeal the borough's non-areawide library power.

If approved, the proposition would rescind the borough's non-areawide library power that enables it to levy a 0.7 mill tax on non-areawide properties (those outside the city limits of Ketchikan and Saxman) that is currently used to fund the portion of Ketchikan Public Library services that non-areawide residents use, about 38% of the library's annual operating budget, or about $516,000.
