KETCHIKAN (KDN) — Ketchikan School District students will have its last day of school on Friday, one week ahead of schedule, the district announced late last week.
The change will make more time for teachers in the district to be trained on how to use online programs for remote learning that might be needed for instruction in the upcoming school year, according to the May 15 announcement.
The last day of school for students was originally scheduled to be June 3, according to the district’s calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. The last day of school for teachers is still June 4, the originally scheduled date.
The district posted the announcement to its Facebook page on Sunday.
“We will continue to have learning activities posted on the district’s website for all age groups, and school staff and teachers will continue to be available to assist you with your student’s needs,” the announcement stated.
Schools will send parents a schedule for next week “with details for collecting school materials and being able to see your child off for summer vacation,” according to the announcement.
