KETCHIKAN (KDN) — A training session focusing on maintenence techniques and engine theory regarding the Pratt & Whitney R985 aircraft engines has been scheduled for Oct. 4 in Ketchikan.

The session will be conducted by representatives of Aero Recip, a piston aircraft engine overhaul facility based in Winnepeg, Canada.

  “These sessions are oriented towards maintenance techniques and sharing knowledge amongst peers,” Aero Recip General Manager Tracey Gregorash said in a prepared statement. “With Beaver aircraft such an important part of life, it’s crucial to stay knowledgeable. Passing on tricks of the trade from the older generation to the younger generation is a way to keep these vital aircraft in the air making money.”

According to Aero Recip, the FAA has approved the sessions as a “IA Refresher.”

The session includes eight hours of IA refresher training, according Ron Despins of Aero Recip. Participants will receive an R985 technical theory and maintenance certificate, and a session handout with PowerPoint presentation slides with excerpts from the P&W R985 Overhaul Manual.
