Our best wishes go to the high school wrestlers participating the Region V high school wrestling tournament slated to start Friday at Craig High School.
Southeast Alaska’s wrestlers have been competing since mid-October, and the results of this weekend’s meet will determine which of those wrestlers will be advancing to the state championships Dec. 20-21 in Anchorage. We’re hoping to see a good number of Ketchikan High School and Prince of Wales Island wrestlers making the northbound trip.
We appreciate the community of Craig stepping up to host the Region V event. Tournaments are a lot of work, drawing from community volunteers and businesses to handle the myriad details of hosting visiting teams and organizing the event itself.
School event travel has been a tremendous opportunity for Southeast Alaska’s athletes, musicians and participants in activities such as Academic Decathlon; Drama, Debate and Forensics; and the Ocean Sciences Bowl. It’s good to see the tradition continuing this year, now with the Southeast’s wrestlers being able to compete in a Region V meet at Craig.
Here’s to a successful tournament.
