Laura Jean Straight

Laura Jean Straight, 65, died on Oct. 9, 2019, in Bellingham, Washington.

She was born  to Mildred Irwin and Al Betmyeren on Dec. 29, 1953, in Glasgow, Montana. She resided in Glasgow until 1974, when she moved to Great Falls, Montana.

She met her husband, Kim Straight, in Great Falls, and they lived in Montana for several years until moving to Ketchikan on Nov. 15, 1987. In 1997 her family moved to Thorne Bay.

“Laura always gave all of herself in everything she did, most recently working at Thorne Bay school,” her family writes. “It truly brought her joy being a part of so many children’s lives.

She enjoyed going to garage sales, and finding bargains.

“Her green thumb brought life into her home,” her family writes. “Most of all, she took care of her family. Laura had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter, Kylee. Laura’s infectious laughter and great sense of humor will be sadly missed by all that knew her.”

Mrs. Straight was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Irwin and Al Betmyern; sisters, Shirley Anne and Anna Louise; and brothers, Earl James and Robert Lee.

She is survived by her husband, Kim Straight; daughters, Rainbow Dawn (Sundance) Allen of Moscow, Idaho, and Charlie Ann Straight of Thorne Bay; son, Patrick (Kristin) Maag of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers, John Beck of Ft. Mohave, Arizona, and Albert Irwin of New Town, North Dakota; and sister, Linda (Charlie) Eagler of Grand Junction, Colorado.
