Lady Kings defeat Craig 3-2

The Ketchikan High School Lady Kings needed extra points, on top of extra points. But at the end of the end of the day, Ketchikan’s volleyball squad finally broke through with a victory.

The Lady Kings won their first game this season in a 3-2 thriller over the Craig High School Lady Panthers on Friday night.

The two teams met at Craig High School in a rematch of last week’s match at Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium.

Craig grabbed ahold of the first set 25-21, but Ketchikan bounced back in the second and third sets, 25-18 and 27-25, respectively.

The Lady Panthers tied the match 2-2, with a 25-16 win in the fourth frame, setting up a decisive fifth set.

Typically, the fifth frame is played to 15 points. But as Craig and Ketchikan vollied back and forth, extra points were needed to claim victory.

And the Lady Kings won 19-17.

Ketchikan will return home to host Klawock and Metlakatla high schools on Thursday.

JV squads

Craig’s JV teams defeated Ketchikan on Friday.

The Lady Kings’ C team lost 2-0, dropping the first two sets of a best-of-three match, 25-22 and 25-20.

Ketchikan’s JV team lost its best-of-five match 3-1 against the Lady Panthers’ JV squad.

Craig’s JV team won the first two sets 25-20 and 28-26, before the Lady Kings’ JV team won the third set 26-24.

The Lady Panthers’ JV team won the fourth set 25-22.

Thursday’s scores

Craig and Ketchikan played a quick match on Thursday at Craig High School.

The Lady Panthers won 3-0, taking the three sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15.
