Lady Kings finish preseason scrimmages in Juneau

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan High School varsity volleyball squad finished up its preseason schedule in Juneau on Saturday. The Lady Kings played four games, nearly back-to-back-to-back-to-back, while competing in the second day of the Juneau Jamboree at Juneau-Douglas High School.

Kayhi went 0-3-1 on day, dropping its games to Mt. Edgecumbe, Thunder Mountain and Juneau-Douglas high schools in two straight sets, apiece. The Lady Kings tied Sitka High School 1-1, losing the first set 21-16, but won the second set 21-17.

Because it was exhibition, the game ended at one apiece.

The outcomes from the jamboree do not influence the regular season. The Lady Kings will jump start that portion of their schedule on Friday when the Lady Crimson Bears are in town.

JV Lady Kings

Ketchikan’s JV squad competed in Juneau, as well. After finishing Friday’s trio of games 0-2-1, the Lady Kings played five more matchups on Saturday.

After a couple tough matches against Thunder Mountain’s C team and Sitka’s JV team, losing in two straight sets to each, Ketchikan jumped on its opportunity against Juneau-Douglas’ C team.

The JV Lady Kings won the first set 21-14 against the rival C squad, before falling in the second set 21-15. Ketchikan dropped its final two matches against Juneau-Douglas’ JV team and Thunder Mountain’s C team, once more, in two straight sets.

The JV Lady Kings also will open their regular season on Friday against Juneau-Douglas at Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium.
