Lyle T. Jones, 67, died on June 20, 2019, in Anchorage.
He was born on May 24, 1952, in Ketchikan.
As a child, he resided in both Wrangell and Ketchikan.
Mr. Jones was married on Dec. 4, 2004, in Ketchikan.
He was a resident of Prince of Wales Island.
Mr. Jones was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger with the 82nd Airborne.
He worked as a commercial fisherman, logger, longshoreman, totem pole restorer and in carpentry.
Mr. Jones was a member of The Salvation Army and American Legion.
“(He) enjoyed living a traditional subsistence lifestyle, working through each season gathering our foods, and preparing his gear and updating his boat with all the latest tech toys to provide for his family and friends,” his family writes.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Gunderson; sister, Roseanne Hayes; and brother, Arnold Gunderson.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Guthrie-Jones of Ketchikan; daughter, Josephine Guthrie of Ketchikan; son, Conan Guthrie of Ketchikan; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Scherrer of Klawock, Charmaine Benston of Klawock and Eleanor Knecht of Wrangell; brothers, Joe Huke of Wrangell and Marcus Gunderson of Wrangell; and father, Gilbert Gunderson of Wrangell.
A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Ketchikan Mortuary.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m., at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, located on 3113 Tongass Ave. Attendees are requested to bring a favorite dish to share.
