Samuel William Cook Sr.


Samuel William Cook Sr., 69, died June 10, 2019, in Klawock.

He was born on Feb. 6, 1950, in Celilo Falls, Oregon.

He resided in the Ketchikan and Prince of Wales Island area for 40 years.

He worked on the SPNS railroad in Washington and at the Ketchikan Pulp Co. Mill in Ketchikan. He also worked as a commercial fisherman, cab driver and longshore commercial fisherman.

Mr. Cook was a member of the Shaker Church and The Salvation Army.

He enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, travel, working on cars and going to pow-wows.

His family writes that he enjoyed “arguing with his grandson Joseph, buying weapons for his great-granddaughter Zoey, and spoiling his grand kids and great-great grand babies.”

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Cook Sr. and Sarah Rose Peele; brother, John Joseph Cook; sister, Mary May Jack; and granddaughters, Tasha, Tashina, Whitefeather, Taquia, Rain, Deeleean, Lahteeonna and Elizabeth Rose.

He is survived by his siblings, Victor (Wanda) Johnson, Michael (Dixie) Cook, Matthew Cook Jr., Elizabeth Cook, Jessie Cook, Lawrence Cook Sr., Richard Cook and Benjamin Cook Sr.; children, Racheal (Brat) Milne, Timothy Cook, Sam Cook Jr. and Sean Cook; grandsons, Randy Samuel, John Matthew, Michael Jasson, David Silas, Storm Donald Patrick and Joseph Albert; and great-grandchildren, Zoey Jane, Michael Jacob, Grayson Parker, Jonah Gerald, Maison Samuel, Liliana Ryleigh and Sean.

Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019, at The Salvation Army in Ketchikan, and at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the A&B Hall in Klawock.

Mr. Cook's remains will be cremated.
