KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan High School track and field team is nearing the finish line of its season, as both Kayhi’s boys’ and girls’ squads are in the midst of hosting their final meet at Esther Shea Field this weekend.

Preliminary rounds between Kayhi and Petersburg High School happened Friday afternoon, along with final heats in high jump, long jump and shot put. The remaining final events will begin Saturday morning. Kayhi is using the meet as a tune up before the regional meet in Juneau on May 17-18.

In addition to both high schools, Schoenbar Middle School and Mitkof Middle School, from Petersburg, also are competing against each other.

The weekend meet marks just the fourth competition for Kayhi this season. Kayhi’s invitational was on April 19-20, before traveling to Sitka and Thunder Mountain high schools.

Members of the track and field team competed in Washington before the start of the season.
