Volleyball coverage

EDITOR, Daily News:

On April 5 and April 6, Schoenbar Middle School Knights had a Southeast Alaska Girls Volleyball Tournament. A and B teams from Metlakatla, Craig, Klawock, Thorne Bay, Wrangell, Naukati and Petersburg came to participate, along with coaches, managers, chaperones and some parents.

All the players were respectful and courteous on and off the court. The respective towns and schools should be proud of these young ambassadors. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the teams participating in these games.

My hope was to see some of this tournament action in the local newspaper so that family and friends who didn’t attend could share in some of the highlights of the games and the players’ hard work.

So far I haven’t seen anything, not even a list of brackets or winners. A lot of local businesses, parents and other individuals put in a tremendous amount of work planning and executing this tournament, including the dinner for the coaches and referees who gave their time and energy to make this a remembered event.

Hopefully, there will be better coverage in the future as these are the athletes of tomorrow.
