KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Mt. Edgecumbe High School Lady Braves flipped the script on the Ketchikan High School Lady Kings on Saturday.
Kayhi had defeated Mt. Edgecumbe 57-42 on Friday, but the Lady Braves weren’t going to be swept on their home court. And 24 hours later, the Lady Kings fell 46-35.
Kayhi’s offense sparked in the second quarter. After falling behind 10-3 within the first eight minutes, the Lady Kings rallied back to score 23 points in the second frame and had a 26-23 lead at the half.
Kayhi’s Madison Rose and Ashley Huffine combined to score 20 of its 23 points in the quarter.
Lianne Guevarra also chipped in a 3-pointer.
But then the Lady Kings’ offense grew quiet again. And six different Lady Braves hit baskets in the third quarter to take a 37-33 lead.
Kayhi hovered within striking distance, but could only muster two free throws in the final frame, as Mt. Edgecumbe won.
Kayhi continued to fire shots from the outside, as 15 of the Lady Kings’ 35 points came via 3-pointers. But several attempts from the behind the arc spun out in the second half and Mt. Edgecumbe was able to climb back.
Kayhi was 8 for 12 from the free throw line.
Mt. Edgecumbe was 6 for 13.
