KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Palmer High School Moose and Philomath High School Warriors kept pace with each other in the second half of the Clarke Cochrane Christmas Class third-place game on Saturday.
But a slow start came back to bite the Moose, as they couldn’t overcome a 19-13 halftime deficit. And Philomath claimed bronze in the boys’ bracket with a 46-43 win. Palmer placed fifth.
Palmer could only muster three points in the first quarter — a 3-pointer from junior guard Lavar Marshall. He would finish the game with three threes and a game-high 21 points.
But the Warriors would have three players hit double figures, and they shot 64 percent from the free throw line to help Philomath edge out the victory.
On the flipside, Palmer was successful only 48 percent of the time from the line.
Scoring Line: Philomath — Marshall Brattain, 16; Ethan Manning, 11; Calvin Snuggerud, 10; Michael Lundy, 5; Toby Stueve, 4. Palmer — Lavar Marshall, 21; Carson Helm, 8; Dae Osiensky, 8; Ronny Marshall, 4; Caden Brown, 2.
