Woodwright 63, KIC 40

6th through 8th grade — Boys

Nov. 29

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — Three was Woodwright’s lucky number on Nov. 29. The eight-person squad had three different players — Kyan Scudero, Nathan Chapel and Kyler Secrest — hit double digits.

The team tallied three times as many points as Ketchikan Indian Community in the first quarter — carrying a 21-7 lead into the second frame.

And Woodwright finished the game tripling its first quarter score — eventually winning 63-40.

After jumping out on top against KIC at the Saxman Community Center, Woodwright’s 21-7 lead quickly vanished in the second quarter.

KIC’s defense shut Woodwright down in the second frame; meanwhile its offense picked up. And after the first half, it was a brand new ball game, knotted up at 21 apiece.

But after the break, Woodwright got the ball rolling in the second half en route to its win.

Scudero had the hot hand, leading all scorers with 24 points. Chapel was right behind him with 18 points, and Secrest finished the day with 10. The trio accounted for 52 of the team’s 63 points.

Kain Dalton nearly joined them in the double-figure category, as he had eight points. And Jesse Weston tacked on three.

On KIC’s side, five different players shot in succession — finishing with six, seven, eight, nine and 10 points, respectively.

Jace Z Booth led his team with 10 points. Romel Jon-2 Del Mundo was right behind him with nine points and Jason Lorig had eight points.

Robert James finished with seven points and Joseph Harper tallied six for KIC.

STVFD 43, KIC 30

6th through 8th grade — Boys

Dec. 1

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department and Ketchikan Indian Community teams met for the second time on Saturday. And just like their first meeting, the second go-around was just as close.

Both teams scored a dozen points in the first half at Schoenbar Middle School, entering the intermission tied 12-12. But in the second half, the points kept pouring.

STVFD’s 31 points between the third and fourth quarters eventually gave them a 43-30 win.

STVFD’s Luke Rauwolf led all scorers with 17 points. Colton Shull and Steven Dilts also had double figures for STVFD, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

Jonathon Scoblic and Tala Isaia each scored two points, and Jhun Bachaa hit a free throw for STVFD.

Robert James led KIC with 12 points, and Joseph Harper scored seven points. Both Jason Lorig and Jace Z Booth scored four points apiece, and Romel Jon-2 Del Mundo had three.
