Charles Hanas


Charles Hanas, 98, died Dec. 2, 2017, in Olympia, Washington.

He was born May 29, 1919, in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hanas served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1943, and was married on Jan. 15, 1946 in Sayre.

Mr. Hanas worked as the meteorologist in charge of the Annette Island station. He also lived on Annette Island from 1952 to 1957, and also from 1960 to 1975.

His hobbies included fishing and gardening.

Mr. Hanas is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; and granddaughter Karen Annette Hanas.

He is survived by his sons, Richard (Susan) Hanas of Anchorage and Charles Hanas Jr. of Ketchikan; and grandchildren, Richard Hanas Jr., Cody Hanas and Laney Annette Hanas.

No services in Ketchikan are planned. Mr. Hanas' remains were interred at Olympic Memorial Gardens in Tumwater, Washington.
