Kardinals take down Wrangell 62-46

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Kenai Central High School Kardinals got a huge boost from Brooke Satathite, who scored 31 points to power the Kardinals to a 62-46 win over the Wrangell High School Lady Wolves.

The victory landed the Kardinals in seventh place for the 2017 Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic basketball tournament that concluded on Saturday at Ketchikan High School.

Satathite made a huge impression in her return to play, after being sidelined since Friday evening by an injury suffered in the second quarter of Kenai’s game against the Ketchikan High School Lady Kings. The Kardinals junior scored 14 2-point buckets and went three-for-six from the charity stripe as she anchored the Kenai offense.

Even so, Wrangell was up 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and held on to a 21-21 tie as halftime arrived. Satathite hit for eight points in the third quarter as the Kardinals pulled into the lead and stayed there through the remaining minutes.

Wrangell, playing with a seven-person roster, saw strong performances on offense by Anna Allen, 16 points, and Kaylyn Easterly, 13.
