Chad Thomas Secrest, 30, died Nov. 18, 2012, in Ketchikan.
He was born on March 26, 1982, in Fairbanks, and attended Nordale Elementary School in Fairbanks, Point Higgins Elementary School and Schoenbar Middle School in Ketchikan and graduated from Lathrop High School in Fairbanks.
Mr. Secrest lived in Ketchikan, and worked as a cook.
He enjoyed playing with his children, camping, walking on the beach, driving into the mountains, wandering in the woods, and had a passionate love for basketball. His family writes that "it didn’t matter if it were on television, in a video game, in person or on a card — he loved the game."
He also enjoyed working on his house, making a home for his family. His big heart, his love for his children and his laugh, "so loud and full of love," all were memorable, according to his family.
Mr. Secrest was preceded in death by his father, Tom Secrest; grandfathers, Lester R. Secrest Sr. and Donald L. Runnion; and uncle, Richard D. Monsey.
Mr. Secrest is survived by his fiancee, Christine Furey; daughters, Arianna Hawks, Addison Secrest and Tacoma Coronel, all of Ketchikan; sons, Treven Secrest and Juan "Jub Jub" Coronel Jr., all of Ketchikan; mother, Dianna Secrest of Ketchikan; brothers, Raymond (Brenda) Secrest and Boyd (Sarah) Runnion, both of Ketchikan; grandmothers, Patty Runnion of Ketchikan and Bernadine Secrest of New Mexico; uncles, Tom (Jackie) Scott of Ketchikan, Charlie (Pauline) Newhouse of Fairbanks, Ronald (Kimberly) Runnion of Fairbanks, Robert (Toni) Monsey of Vermont and Lester (Ann) Secrest of Anchorage; aunt, Linda Cotton of Anchorage; nieces and nephews, Alanna Tarbox, Jaidyn Reese, Kyler Secrest and Taryn Secrest; cousins, Chris Runnion, Don Runnion, Kristy Runnion, Rick Monsey, Joey Monsey, Shay Monsey, Colin Monsey, Yvonne Cotton, Terry Cotton, Skylar Cotton, Emily Secrest, Chris Secrest, Cody Secrest, Cory Bassett, Bretta Bassett, Bridie Bassett, Darren (Marla) Scott and many more family members.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Church of Christ with the Rev. Gary Souza officiating, with a reception at the American Legion to follow.
