Kids Fishing Derby set for Saturday
KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan-Misty Fiords Ranger District has scheduled the annual Kids Fishing Derby for 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 15 at Ketchikan City Park.

The Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery will be stocking the park ponds with 2,000 juvenile king salmon.

Check-in/registration will start at 9 a.m., and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Youths aged 3 years to 15 years can begin fishing at 9:30 a.m., according to derby information. Organizers will cordon off half of a pound for fishing by anglers under 6 years of age.

Anglers should bring their own fishing pole with a size 8-10 hook. No lures will be allowed.

Other activities will include lure making, a casting challenge, angler ethics information, and fish printing with participants’ own washed T-shirts. Prize drawings for registered children are planned also.
