Paul Neil Peterson, 58, died in Ketchikan on Nov. 16, 2012.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1953 in Orange, Calif. He moved to Ketchikan in 1963 with his family and a van full of pets.
He began fishing at 15 and fished for the rest of his life. He loved his life on the sea, according to his family, and watching wildlife, feeding birds and photography.
"In town he could be seen riding his bicycle and visiting folks all along the way," his family writes. "Paul was a friendly guy with a ready smile and made lifelong friends wherever he went. Paul spent his off time on the sunny beaches of California, Florida, and Mexico where he could bask in the sun from morning until night. He also enjoyed photography, swimming, a good workout followed by a long sauna, and especially flirting with the ladies. Paul was a generous, good-hearted, fun-loving, free spirit that lived his life to the fullest."
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold "Pete" Peterson, mother, Alice Meredith "Meri" MacNeil Peterson Marsden, brother, Jimmy Marsden, and friend, Clyde Cowan.
Mr. Peterson survived by his brothers, Steve "Spear" Peterson (Laura) of Aberdeen, Wash.; Larry "Gus" Peterson (Candy) of Ketchikan; sisters, Lonnie Peterson Beesley (Mike Schwartz) of Torrance, Calif.; Annette Marsden Sharpe of Hollis; Alice Marsden Nelson of Craig; and Jan Marsden Carle (John) of Hydaburg and Edmonds, Wash.; nieces, Heather Peterson Melendez (Charles), Autumn Beesley Inputi, Natalie Peterson, Ginger Peterson, Jade Carle, Shauna Lee and Elizabeth Harrison; nephews, Josh Peterson (Diane), Larry Paul Marsden, Steven Nelson, Jasper Nelson, James Sharpe, Cayden Carle, Taan Carle, and Johnny Carle, stepfather Stan Marsden, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A?potluck service will be held on Dec. 2 at 12:30 p.m at the First Assembly of God at 3225 Fairview Ave.
Mr. Peterson’s remains will be cremated and spread at Balboa Beach in California.
