Craig board member receives recognition

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — Michael Kampnich was given the Don MacKinnon Education Excellence and Human Recognition Award for 2013 on Nov. 9 at the Association of Alaska School Board's annual conference in Anchorage.

Kampnich has been a Craig School District board member for 13 years and was nominated by his fellow board members for the award.

Kampich is a "tireless advocate for children," and a proponent for vocational a academic opportunities, they wrote in the nomination.

Kampnich said he was grateful for board members who serve their community and advocate on behalf of the students, and that the investment of time and energy had many rewards.

The MacKinnon Educational Excellence and Human Recognition Award was established in 1985 in honor of Don MacKinnon, the first executive director of AASB.
