ANCHORAGE (AP) — A political newcomer has taken a 32-vote lead in the race for a state House seat from southeast Alaska.
With all ballots apparently counted, Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins of Sitka leads incumbent Republican Bill Thomas of Haines 4,123-4,091.
The Division of Elections on Wednesday reported the new totals after counting all outstanding ballots.
The deadline was Wednesday for eligible ballots postmarked from overseas.
Thomas said late Wednesday he will consider his options, including a possible recount request, after speaking to the Division of Elections.
Division Director Gail Fenumiai says by email that a recount can’t be requested until the race has been certified. She says certification is likely to be completed Friday.
