It’s full steam ahead for an idea that’s good for the community.

YOLO, the catchphrase acronym for “you only live once,” has had a mixed track record ever since it appeared early this decade.

Yay for us

It’s our birthday: The Ketchikan Gateway Borough turns 50 this year.

And there’s a party! The celebration will be at the White Cliff building from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13, where there will be music by a live band, barbecue, refreshments and — get this — borough history and trivia. (There, now; we’ve given you one trivia answer: The borough was incorporated on Sept. 13, 1963. Beyond that, you are going to have to read up on these things.)

Among the other celebratory notes for the upcoming do are free bus rides all day and free swimming at the Gateway Aquatic Center.

The borough’s theme for its 50th anniversary is “Proud history, bright future.”

We like it.

Any reason for a party, and turning 50 is a pretty good reason. We’re in. See you at White Cliff on Friday the 13th. Ride The Bus!
