New Year’s Day affects hours

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — Monday is the New Year's Day holiday.

The holiday affects a variety of government offices, services and financial institutions.

Federal and state offices will be closed Monday.

Both the Ketchikan Post Office and the Ward Cove Post Office will be closed Monday.

Ketchikan Gateway Borough offices will be closed on Monday. Ketchikan Gateway Borough Transit buses will not operate either.

The Gateway Recreation Center and Aquatic Center will be closed Monday.

The winter break for Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District schools runs from Friday, Dec. 22 through Sunday, Jan. 7. As such, there is no school on New Year’s Day. Schools will reopen for classes on Jan. 8.

The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan campus is closed for its Winter Semester Break. It will reopen Tuesday.

City of Ketchikan offices will close at noon Friday and reopen on Tuesday.

Ketchikan Public Utilities’ service office at The Plaza mall will be closed Sunday and Monday. Telecom technical support remains available 24/7.

The Ketchikan Public Library will be closed on Monday.

The Tongass Historical Museum and the Totem Heritage Center will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The City of Ketchikan Solid Waste Facility will be closed Sunday and Monday, and reopen Tuesday. Starting on Tuesday, its pickup routes will be one day behind.

Pacific Waste (Tongass Sanitation) will be closed Monday, and Monday customers will be serviced on Tuesday.

City of Saxman offices are closed through the holiday season, and will reopen on Tuesday.

The Ketchikan Indian Community offices and the KIC Tribal Health Clinic will be closed Monday.

Financial institutions will be closed on Monday.

The Ketchikan Daily News will not publish on Monday, Jan. 1. Publication will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.
