We’re in the midst of “Sunshine Week,” a national event...

If you’re feeling a little green this morning, then you’ll fit...

Andrew “Drew” Chapin, 34, died March 7, 2018, in Washington state.

EDITOR, Daily News:

The recent Chamber of Commerce Point of View article highlights the need for price transparency in health care. At PeaceHealth we wholeheartedly agree. It is essential that patients understand each step in their care process, including the cost of their care.

Several years ago, we responded to our patients’ request for price transparency by establishing a toll-free line to request an estimate of the average cost for hospital procedures such as labs, imaging and surgery.

In addition, when time allows, patients scheduled for surgical and cardiovascular procedures now proactively receive a price estimate by mail or via phone call prior to their procedure. This provides patients with the estimated amount that they will need to pay out of their pocket based on the procedure and their specific insurance coverage.

Pricing is also available for PeaceHealth Medical Group office visits including any procedures performed in the clinics by calling customer service. PeaceHealth is also currently working on ways to make it even easier for patients to get estimates online with a new pricing tool.

I will continue to listen for and respond to community concerns to ensure we are providing each person with the care they need — right here at home — every step in the process.
