She was born Dec. 13, 1952, in Washburn, Wisconsin. She resided in Bayfield, Wisconsin; in Ketchikan, where she graduated from Ketchikan High School in 1971; and in Anchorage.

“Kathleen loved books of all sorts,” her family writes. “She surrounded herself with flowers, cosmetics and jewelry. In her lifetime, she was spiritual and studied with women of different local churches.

“She persevered through many disappointments and hard times, and managed to keep going and look at the bright side,” her family continued. “She will be remembered and missed.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Bill Thompson; brothers, Jim Thompson and Bill Thompson; uncle and aunt, Chet and Frances Thompson; and cousins, Mary Beth Vincent and Judy Carson.

She is survived by her son, Shawn Ash; sister-in-law, Donna Thompson; nephew, Jeremy Thompson and his son, Seth McGillis; niece, Wendi Thompson and her children, Hoku, Peter and James Tavares; niece, Courtney Thompson and her daughter, Audrina Baham; and cousins from the Thompson side of the family: Terry, Laurie, John, Steve, David and Chrissie, and their families.

Her remains were cremated and the ashes will be taken to Anchorage and spread there.
